Distance Learning

Welcome to the guide on Distance Learning

This guide provides RCC distance learners with access to resources necessary for online and hybrid courses. Navigate through this guide by using the tabs at the side of this page. If you have any questions make sure you contact one of the librarians at the RCC Library.

Access

In order to access all of the RCC Library's electronic resources you will need a barcode. A barcode can be obtained from the RCC Library's Circulation Desk. This requires that you come to campus at least once to first get a student ID from Public Safety, and then that you come to the Library to get a barcode. Online students can come to the library or email the library staff for your barcode.  All electronic resources will prompt you to enter your barcode number before accessing them if you are off campus.

Reference & Research

Reference and research assistance from a professional librarian is available to all online and hybrid students. The following methods are available during normal Library hours:

  • Chat Reference - click the blue "Ask a Librarian" box on any of the Library's webpages and a live librarian will help you with your reference and research needs. When this service is unavailable you will be given the option of emailing a librarian.
  • Telephone - call (617) 541-5323 to speak with a reference librarian.

After normal Library hours:

  • Email - send your question to library1@rcc.mass.edu. Librarians will respond to your question within 48 hours.

Electronic Resources

The RCC Library provides distance learners with access to thousands of electronic resources. All of the resources have been selected by librarians and are appropriate for college-level academic research. These include:

Tutorials

The RCC Library's tutorials can help you navigate the wide array of resources available to you. Each one walks you through the process of using a resource starting from the RCC Library's homepage.
