This guide explores the evolution of the women's rights movement with the advent of technology and social media, such as recent transformative events like the #MeToo twitter movement. MeToo was first coined on Myspace in 2006 by activist Tarana Burke, and was subsequently catapulted by Alyssa Milano after media outlets reported on numerous sexual assault accusations against producer Harvey Weinstein. Milano called on women via Twitter to report their own experiences with sexual assault and sexual harassment, leading to a worldwide movement seeking to expose the depth and breadth of the problem.
