Library Instruction

Your library instruction will take place in the library classroom and will include browsing the collection.  It will be about 45 minutes long.

How to Prepare and What to Expect

Before coming to class, you should:

  • take a valid ID and a copy of your class schedule to security to get a Student ID card.
  • go to the Circulation Desk at the library and ask for a barcode for your Student ID card.

During class, you will:.

  • review the library website in the instruction classroom.
  • search for a topic of their choice in the catalog.   
  • try to find the book that you had searched for in the Circulation Stacks.  
  • browse the Juvenile and Adult Literacy books.    
  • check out a book from the library to take home with you.  

By the end of class, you will:

  • understand how to search for a book in the catalog.  
  • be introduced to Library of Congress classification and call numbers.  
  • understand how to check out books or equipment from the library.
  • be familiar with both the Juvenile and the Adult Literacy sections of the library.
